Nearpod
Tool Write Up
I decided to use Nearpod as an Engaging Students in Learning tool as it enables teachers to create power points and augmented reality virtual field trips to engage student learning in the classroom. Teachers can present the field trips to the classroom in order to present new material and instruct their students in matters outside their classroom.
Why this tool?
Nearpod is an interactive presentation and assessment tool that can be used to amazing effect in the classroom. The amount of options available to teachers and students using Nearpod is endless, and this tool keeps students actively engaged through the many different types of slides and information available to present with.
Artifact Reflection
How does this experience relate to SAMR model?
While teachers could always present a regular power point, Nearpod brings learning to the Redefinition stage because students are able to embark on virtual field trips utilizing augmented reality and increased learning. Students can visit other areas of the world without ever leaving their classroom, as well as take assessments and quizzes in various formats throughout the lesson.
What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
This artifact is completely customizable and enables teachers to use many different technological formats to enhance and gauge student learning. Students are able to take polls, quizzes, and even submit drawings during the powerpoint.
How does this experience relate to ISTE NETS?
Nearpod relates to the Creator ISTE NET for Educators as it uses technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs; designs authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning; and explores and applies instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.
My Nearpod Presentation
My Powerpoint: Mystery Skype
I made a Powerpoint for my Virtual Co-Op's classroom discussing Mystery Skype and how to use this tool in the classroom. I addressed what Mystery Skype is, how to use it, tips and suggestions, and more. I included pictures and a video, as well as a Canva poster.
Student Outcome for Learning
Following the presentation of the Mystery Skype Nearpod Powerpoint, the students will have a basic understanding of what Mystery Skype is and what they will be expected to do when using it in the classroom.
