QR Codes

Tool Write Up

QR Codes are tools that can be used to help make information and resources more accessible. You are able to find any website, video, or online database and create a QR code for that link. Then, anyone is able to scan the code with their phone or device and be directed immediately to that resource. This is an example of Augmented Reality: a live direct or indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are "augmented" by computer-generated or extracted real-world sensory input such as sound, video, graphics, or GPS data.

Why this tool?

I decided to use QR Codes as an Engaging Students in Learning tool because it enables teachers to not only find unique and effective online resources, but also to share them with their students in an easy and efficient way. Teachers are able to create codes for any online resource and make them accessible to their students from anywhere, whether that be at home, school, or out and about!

Artifact Reflection

What did you enjoy about creating the artifact?
Creating QR codes is very simple and easy to do. I used qrstuff.com to make my codes, and was able to make seven different codes in a short period of time. I was also able to customize them by selecting different colors for each code, and used Canva to create a poster with all of them in one place. I made the codes for seven different apps that my virtual co-op was using in her classroom. Each code directs the students to a How-To video or website for each app so when working in stations they can get extra help if needed.

How does this experience relate to ISTE NETS?
By using QR Codes in the classroom, a teacher is a facilitator. Teachers are able to manage the use of technology and student learning strategies in a digital platform.

How can you use this tool in your future classroom?
Because QR Codes are so flexible, I can use it to do pretty much anything involving resources. Creating tech stations, sharing resources for homework help, and enabling students to share their own blogs or websites with others are just some of the ways I can use QR codes in my classroom.
